En los últimos años ha estudiado diversos problemas ecológicos del noroeste de México. En particular se ha enfocado al estudio de la ecología reproductiva y evolución de sistemas de apareamiento en plantas, así como al estudio de la genética de poblaciones de plantas del noroeste de México. También ha estudiado el impacto ecológico de la actividad humana en los ecosistemas del noroeste de México y reciententemente ha incursionado en problemas de fitorremediación de los residuos de la actividad minera.
